Missing Persons Garden

Missing Persons Garden, Dru Point, Margate

The Missing Persons Garden is a dolerite boulder in a small garden of rosemary located in the grounds of Dru Point Bicentennial Park, Margate, south of Hobart. It is a site of remembrance for the family and friends of the many people who are missing. Rosemary was chosen because it is the herb of remembrance.

The garden was created by the ZONTA Club of Queenborough which is a community service organisation. The site was dedicated at on August 6, 1999 and officially launched on July 31,  2000 during National Missing Persons Week. Premier of Tasmania Jim Bacon, donated $2000 towards the establishment of this garden.

The garden took two years to build by the ZONTA club and volunteers. It was built so family and friends of the many missing people have a place to come to remember their loved ones. The ZONTA club chose Dru Point because it is a tranquil place near the water.
