Aboriginal families told Dreaming Stories to their children. The stories explain the beginning of life and the universe and how everything came into being. Tribal leaders told Dreaming Stories to their people. Usually they were told to teach children the rules of life, tribal laws and how to behave. Most Dreaming Stories have a moral behind them. Do you think it matters if the Dreaming Stories are true, or is the message they bring more important? Occasionally there were two or more tribes with Dreaming Stories that had the same name. There were between 500 and 700 tribes living in the continent of Australia. Each tribe told their own Dreaming Stories which had been passed down to them through many generations.
