How the Echidna Got Its Spikes

One day Edwina, the echidna, went outside.  She was very sad.  So she went to see her friend Doug.  He was very wise.  She asked him what she could do to make herself look pretty.  He advised her to get a wig.  She went to the wig shop.  She asked Winona which wig she liked the most.  Winona said she liked the brown one.

Edwina paid Winona for the wig and went home. She put the wig on and went for a walk.  While she was walking she saw all her friends but they didn’t recognise her. She started to cry.  She went back to Doug’s house and asked him and all her other friends to make a plan to make her look pretty.

That night there was a town meeting planned.  Edwina’s friends had deliberately not told her about the meeting and she didn’t go.  All of the other animals made a plan to climb The Old Gum Tree carrying sticks.  The plan was that when Edwina next walked past the Old Gum Tree her friends would throw the sticks at her and she would get spikes.

The next day Kirsten, Winona, Doug and Ella all climbed the Tree. While Edwina was on her morning walk they all threw the sticks. The sticks stuck into her back.

And That’s How The Echidna Got Its Spikes!!!
