Why Kookaburra Laughs

 By Liam

Down at the Patch, at Dru Point, there lived a very kind kookaburra and a very bad bandicoot. They were best friends.

One day Bandicoot got jealous of how Kookaburra could catch fish and lizards. He decided to challenge Kookaburra to a race. “It will be a fair race,” said Bandicoot.  The length of the race was two laps of The Patch.  The race was due to start in two days.

Two days past and they got together.  The race was due to start in five minutes.

Two minutes before the race-started Bandicoot decided on  an evil plan.  He started to dig until he found a lizard. He held it in his hand and kept it a secret.

 READY! SET! GO!

Bandicoot threw the lizard far behind Kookaburra.  Kookaburra quickly flew to catch the lizard and swallowed it in one go.  To make matters even worse Bandicoot was only half way around on his first lap.  His plan had failed.  Now Kookaburra raced ahead but Bandicoot had  Plan B.  When Kookaburra was near the finish line Bandicoot’s friends threw rocks at him. Three of them were direct hits but Kookaburra just got over the finish line.

The next day, when Kookaburra had recovered, he went and met Bandicoot. “You promised a fair race and you cheated.  Now, I’m going to laugh at you for ever.
