Vandalism At Dru Point, Margate

A letter written to a local paper

Recently there has been some vandalism taking place at Dru Point, Margate. Margate Primary School has adopted a patch down at Dru Point. We have been weeding, picking up rubbish, rehabilitating, identifying plants and finding out about the local bird life. Signs have been placed there. However, one disappointing thing is that some uncaring people have been taking down our signs.

Lots of things get vandalised but when our two signs got vandalised it felt very different. The feelings that we felt were mad, angry, sad, unhappy and grumpy. We felt that all our work had gone down the drain.

We have worked very hard down at The Patch. When we see things like this happen it just shows that these people don’t care about anyone but themselves. They don’t care about the animals that live there, they don’t care about the plants and birds. Most of all they don’t care about our school. One of those signs represents our school and it shows people at Margate weeding. It shows how much we care about the environment.

We have raised money and are planning to put other signs up to help people identify the local bird life.

The Patch is special to us in many ways. We hope the vandalism isn’t a continuous matter and that those silly people take notice and really think before they act. We’re asking those people responsible to stop and for people who visit Dru Point to help us care for the environment.
